 Union Territory meaning

 A union territory is a type of administrative division in India directly governed by union government (central government).  Therefore, it got the name "Union Territory".

 Union Territories of India have special rights and status due to their constitutional formation and development.  The status of a "Union Territory" can be assigned to an Indian sub-jurisdiction such as protecting the rights of indigenous cultures, political upheaval related to matters of governance, re-joining India from a foreign harmony and so zip code.

 Why were union territories created?

 The history of becoming a union territory is very old, the union territories were not part of India during independence or they were so small that they could not be made a state according to the provision of the democracy in.

 In 1956, during the discussion on the reorganization of states, the States Reorganization Commission recommended a separate category for these states.  This was done because they neither fit the model of the state and there were many other reasons why they could not be given the status of a full state.

 Along with this they were financially unbalanced, financially weak, and administratively and politically unstable.  Those regions were unable to remain as separate administrative units without relying too much on the central government.  Thus the Union Territories were formed.

 In some cases, the Indian government deliberately chose not to merge smaller areas with neighboring states for several reasons.  Whereas in some cases the "Union Territory" was created to protect the rights of the cultures of the natives.  There were other instances in which a part of the geographical territory was made a union territory to maintain military power and prevent political upheaval.

 Difference between Union Territory and State

 What is the difference between a union territory and a state?

 States are administrative divisions that have their own governments while union territories are administrative divisions which are directly governed by the central government.

 The Union Territory is directly governed by the Central Government through the Lieutenant Governor as the Administrator.

 The President of India appoints an administrator or lieutenant governor for each region.  Before the independence of India, these regions were known as the Chief- Commissioner's Province.

 In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Delhi, they are administered by the Lieutenant Governor, while in Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep, they are known as administrators.  The President may appoint the Governor of a nearby State as the Administrator of a Union Territory.  In such a case the Governor works independently in relation to the administration of the Union Territory.
